On Friday, Sam Sutton was announced as the next head baseball coach at Montgomery County. Sutton is a 2018 graduate of Scott County High School, where he played football and baseball. Throughout his four-year career, Sutton won 112 games and lost only 39. As a sophomore and junior in 2016 and 2017, he was the winning pitcher in district and regional tournaments. He later played at Walters State Community College in Morrisville, Tennessee. His first coaching job was at Scott County High School, where he spent two seasons as the pitching coach. He took over as the head coach of EKU Model 2023 — a team that was 2-24 the season prior. In Coach Sutton’s first year, the Model team turned around and won 19 games with 11 losses. This past season, Model set the school record for most wins with a record of 23-10.
